About Keith Levett
My Approach
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. The key to my work with clients is the belief that through a psychotherapeutic relationship we can gain insights into our patterns of behaviour. By working relationally we can also explore the possibility for change and begin to think of alternative positions that can lead toward a more compassionate and fulfilled version of ourselves. I have completed the training as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist at The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. UKCP Member. Addiction, depression, anxiety, bereavement, low self confidence, low self esteem, relationship problems and work related stress.
“It’s a joy to hide and a disaster not to be found.”
Winnicott's quote suggests that we all experience a need for both solitude and connection. The joy of being hidden can be found in moments of privacy, reflection, and personal space. However, it can be a "disaster" to be completely un-found, meaning to be completely unseen, unheard, or unrecognized by others. This can lead to feelings of isolation and disconnection.
The main focus will be on the relationship between the therapist and the client to work through psychological and behavioral issues. Mental health professionals who practice relational therapy view relationships as central to psychological health and use the therapeutic relationship to help facilitate awareness, growth, and positive change.
Relational therapy is a relationship-focused form of psychotherapy that draws heavily from psychoanalytic therapy. Defined as the shift from “Freud’s neutral blank screen model ” Relational therapists use the therapeutic relationship to identify and address the client’s psychological issues.
I will also consider the client’s past and current relationships, race, gender, social economic class, sexuality, and political orientation. A primary goal of relational therapy is for clients to leave their therapy sessions feeling connected, understood, rejuvenated and revived rather than empty, vulnerable and exposed.
We imagine the analytic encounter as aspiring toward an interpersonal ideal of relational fulfillment and mutual recognition that serves a nurturing and validating function for both the patient and the therapist.
